CURRENT INDUSTRY POTENTIAL:

The current alpaca industry is based on the sale of quality breeding stock, which demands premium prices.  The future of the alpaca industry will give way to several layers of alpaca owners.  The breeders that stay abreast of demand for quality breeding stock will command the highest average prices, with the sale of seed stock.  Production livestock producers will grow the industry by providing the numbers of alpacas necessary to support a commercial fiber industry.  Once a commercial industry is in place, fiber producers will provide the quantity of fiber needed to supply the growing demand for raw fiber.

Females:
Female alpacas begin breeding as early as 14 months to 2 years of age. Currently, prices for female Suri alpacas range between $10,000 and $50,000. Females with unique bloodlines or attributes have sold for more than $100,000.

Males:
Males typically begin breeding between 2 and 3 years of age. Suri stud prospects typically sell between $7,500 and $100,000. Quality males, with unique characteristics or exceptional offspring on the ground, have sold in excess of $500,000.

Apparently they truly are a "huggable" investment...!
